I don't know about you, but I can't watch the DVD. It seems that one viewing of 'Brokeback Mountain' in the theater was enough for me; I never have found myself willing to subject myself again to the sadness, the tragedy, the wasted lives depicted in that movie.
I can re-read the book -- and shake hands with Annie Proulx and tell her how much I loved her writing, which I got to do last Spring. I can listen to the story on my iPod (Campbell Scott does a gorgeous reading of it, you can get it on iTunes). But I can't watch the movie again, though it will always be part of me.
I do, however, love watching video mashups of the movie set to new songs. Just the clips can slay me, but I can handle that in three-minute chunks. You may have seen this, you may not have, but here is one of my favorites.

On a lighter note, this deliciously hysterical imagining of the evolution of Ennis and Jack's grocery list was making the rounds last Spring. It still makes me giggle.

You know, I still have the dvd sitting on my shelf in shrinkwrap - and I never saw the movie in the first place. Reasons are different (my bf saw it with his new bf while he was still my bf) but it's weird the emotions swirling around the movie.
I'm almost scared I'm gonna watch the film one day and then go... "meh". Hope not.

I liked the film, it was a good film, not a great one but well worth watching. I thought the book which I read years before was excellent and still do...there is an I-tunes reading of it...must get ! I loved the book and read it many years ago, I enjoy much of A Proulx work. My boyfriend however was really quite affected by the movie, and was tearful for a couple of days after seeing it. he cried is eyes out again when watching it on dvd, and even th sound track can move him still!!!
Hey atari_age, watch it, put that ghost to rest, don't let an ex have that kind of control over you now...xx

I'm also going to admit to buying a copy of this movie but never watching it....and yes i also still have it in the shrinkwrap. Anytime I've wanted to watch it the words of a good friend of mine pop up, that one should be rather drunk when watching this movie(not that I condone that for those in recovery).
Perhaps one day I'll watch it, or like a few movies that were gotten because they ended up being on EVERYONE'S must have list.

I just have to say that this is now one of my favorite movies. I didn't think I wanted to watch it because I just thought it was a "gay cowboy movie". But to my surprise it was a beautiful love story and it touched me in ways that I never thought it could. I loved it. I have watched probably 4 times now and could watch it again. Just hearing the music to the movie I tear up. It was a great movie.

The list is hysterical, too bad most of that stuff didn't exist in the 70's :-P
I am in the minority here, but I absolutely hated Brokeback Mountain and I don't get what the big deal is about it. Two guys cheating on their wives, only with one another instead of with other women, makes for a great tragic love story...NOT!
Due to the stupid Brokeback mania, a much better movie, TransAmerica, completely got the shaft from the gay community, and later from Hollywood.

Wow this was very emotional and after watching this video you posted it makes me want to cry. I can remember all the emotions in that movie when I saw it in the theater and I honestly could not see the movie again. It shows you how strong two people can love each other, but it can also show how cruel this world is towards homosexuality. I don't think things are as bad now as they were portrayed back then in this movie but it is still something the gay culture should be aware of.
Thanks so much for this blog!

OK , TransAmerica did not get the shaft. I was a very well made, well acted film. The GLAAD Media Awards award the film Outstanding Limited Release. And the release was indeed LIMITED. Brokeback Mountain is appreciated more because it was a wide-release film that captured gay love. The Cheating part is water under the bridge... how many people were "out" in the 60's, how many in the 80's? How many people are still not "out" right now? That film was groundbreaking, releasing in America, and winning 3 Academy Awards. When I watched the Oscars, I thought the film wouldn't win anything. and in The UK, I really don't need to tell how well it did there.
