Cyndi Lauper Announces 'True Colors' Concerts for Gay Rights

true colors tour logoI was flying home from Fort Lauderdale on Jet Blue this morning when Cyndi Lauper popped up on that nifty personal satellite TV screen all the seats have. Every homosexual on the plane quickly changed channels to see what was up with the ol' gal. I unplugged the 'phones from my iPod, which was belting out some vintage Nancy Wilson, and tuned in. A new album, I hoped? No. Way better.

Cyndi was on national TV announcing the 'True Colors' concert tour which will visit 15 cities beginning in June to raise awareness about GLBT civil rights issues and to honor the love we gays have lavished on her lo these many years. I was flying high at the news -- literally and figuratively.

But wait ... It gets better.

The concerts will be five-hour extravaganzas guest starring a panoply of amazing artists who will join Ms. Lauper, including Rufus Wainwright, Erasure, The Indigo Girls, Deborah Harry and others. Rosie O'Donnell will be joining, and Margaret Cho is the host. OMG!

On why Cho chose to do this she said, "I am about as colorful and as queer as it gets. Who else is going to keep all those
Queens in line." Right on, girlfriend!

One dollar of every ticket sold will be donated to the Human Rights Campaign. Erase Hate bracelets from the Matthew Shepard Foundation will be handed out to audience members and literature about issues facing the GLBT community will be available.

cyndi lauper Lauper, who has a lesbian sister and has been a longtime staunch gay rights supporter, holds a special place in our community for many reasons -- not the least of which is that 'True Colors' has been adopted as a bonafide queer anthem. Now it will be further immortalized.

"This tour was created to celebrate our differences by raising awareness for liberty, fairness and dignity for everyone – not just some of us. Our fans can come out to celebrate a great cause while also hearing some great music," Lauper said.

I. Can't. Wait.
