Lesbians Know How To Pick Hot Women: The Top 100 Plus My Fav 5

Maxim thinks they know how to highlight the hotties in Hollywood, but they have no idea. When Maxim debuted it's Hot 100 last month with Lindsay Lohan as the #1 hottest woman IN THE WORLD, I thought they were joking! Thankfully, the women at AfterEllen.com agreed, and rather than sit back and do nothing, they conducted their own Hot 100 by asking women to nominate their favorite sexy vixens.

After seeing the list, I have to applaud the lesbian community for actually having good taste in women, not only for the hotness factor but also for personality (but hey, that's how we girls roll). Then I started to wonder why the two lists varied so much and I think it's because straight men tend to be drawn to women in entertainment that encompass three main things: tits, ass and badness.

I will forever be indebted to AfterEllen for putting the time and energy into this super awesome list. I'll admit I had to wipe my seat and the corners of my mouth after seeing it, which did not disappoint by any means. Might I recommend opening a bottle of wine and playing some Barry White before you pull up a chair to the 'ole laptop and check it out.

AfterEllen's list certainly takes a different road than Maxim's, with eight of the top 10 women on their list not even mentioned on the Maxim list (Angelina Jolie and Lena Headey are the exceptions). Only four of the women who made Maxim's top 10 (Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel and Lindsay Lohan) appear somewhere on the AfterEllen.com list. In case you were wondering,

Leisha Haley made AfterEllen's #1 and Lindsay Lohan only made #79.

Not surprisingly, we lesbians and bisexuals have a soft spot for those who are also lesbian/bi - slightly over half the women on the AfterEllen.com Hot 100 List have played queer characters on the big screen which is definitely a good way to keep us coming back for more. Eight of the women (nine, if you count Drew Barrymore) are openly lesbian or bisexual; AfterEllen thoughtfully notes them for us with a trusty Saphhic asterisk (*) next to their name.

Also, one thing that the lesbian community knows to a T is that sexiness doesn't come in a specific age group, size, color or shape, as after AfterEllen.com points out. From Tina Fey (No. 7) and Helen Mirren (No. 31), to Ellen DeGeneres (No. 50), America Ferrera (No. 30) and Queen Latifah (No. 55) lesbians know how to celebrate diversity!

I've taken the liberty to point out my personal Top 5 Favorites from the AfterEllen.com 100 and I hope you'll share your favorites too!

Renee's Top 5 Hotties To Drool Over
1. Sandra Bullock (#64 on the list) - She will always be my #1. Sandra is like a fine wine, she only gets better with age. Sandra, will you marry me??

2. Leisha Haley (#1 on the list) - She's cute, she's funny, and she's my all-time favorite L lady, so it came as no surprise that she would be the AfterEllen Hot 100's #1!

3. Famke Janssen (#51 on the list) - After playing an MTF transgendered life-coach on Nip/Tuck, I was clawing at the TV screen for this Dutch hottie!

4. Mary-Louise Parker (#29 on the list) - She touched my heart in "Boys on the Side" and makes me want to be a naughty Mom on "Weeds". Either way, she does sexy with finesse!

5. Jennifer Garner (# 67 on the list) - She can do bad-to-the-bone in "Alias" or sweet and innocent in "13 Going on 30". Either way, she's one cutie that catches my eye!

1. Thanks for pointing out the major difference between gay men and straight men! You finally made it crystal clear. Straight men base their decision on three pathetic criteria: tits, ass and badness. So superficial! Gay men include abs in addition to tits, ass and badness. And what is personality exactly? Is that the part where someone wants to "talk" after an orgasm?

2. Wow! I never knew that all straight men were like that. Tits, ass, and badness, huh? What makes lesbians and gays so much better at figuring out what a guy likes then straight people. And, uh, personality? Most guys aren't like the ones who read Maxim magazine just to let you know. And why would you want to date a guy who votes for the Hot 100 List on Maxim anyway. Theres more people out there. And they care about different things. So, yeah, thanks for the info, but I don't really care.

3. Well let me get this right 'straight guys' are ragged on about choosing based on tits, asses and badness.
But the sentance "I'll admit I had to wipe my seat and the corners of my mouth after seeing it" is not enough to show that the very same criteria is being used by the ladies of this world?
I am astonished and somewhat put out by this.
PS for the record - the poll based on 'Hot' factor, does this TRULY include any reference to personality?

4. This only proves that lesbians are looking for a man with a vagina. The only thing these women have in common is that they are very very masculine. It is nurture, not nature, that causes most homosexuality.

I feel there are real people born gay, but it is very very rare, and they crave women like a man crave's women. You would be seeing Pam Anderson top the list for "real" gay women. Homosexuality is just another friggin joke. "On your dress. Your face is a mess. Rebel Rebel!"

6. Dudes, I don't think straight guys only like tits, arse, and badness. A lot of guys like sweet and innocent.

Personally, I love a girl with tits. Personality does come first if it's going to be a long term relationship (er...yes, I'm bi), but superficial is what you see first. And this is the 'top 100 hottest women' which implies it is based on 'hotness' which is visual appeal. And if guys happen to be more inclined to go with the girl who has the nice tits and arse as opposed to the flat-chested girl with no butt, I can't say I blame them. This isn't about personality, because we don't know celebs. It's all about looks, and that's all the people in hollywood really care about. Which is a shame...

8. Some people on here are saying its all about the looks and to me it is not. I would rather have a good personality than all that. I have been going out with my g/f for 4 months and i havent been doing it for 4 months becuz of looks.

11. It is absolutely amazing how many negative posts this article generated.

Personally I have met very few people gay or straight who have formed relationships based on personality alone. That's just weird.

Renee, your list contradicts the entire point of your article, the point of your article was to talk about the queer list, instead you post your own. first of all you cant base actresses of personality. because they are actresses, inside they are most likely all self centered and have their own bitchiness to them. so enough with all this personality crap. these women would not be playing rolls that touch the hearts of butchy women unless they were good at it.

The point of Maxims hot 100 is not who you would most like to marry, settle down with and raise a family top 100 it the list of hot women guys would like to get drunk with and screw. you miss the point of the list. your top 5 is a personality thing, maxim appeals and wins the hearts of people becuase it is a sex list. and thats what sells sex. so get with the program.

13. KJ, what's wrong with socialism? We are definitely far from that, socialism is when the people make their own laws and rule themselves in small areas. It's what the Native Americans did for years until the Europeans came over and manipulated them into hating eachother. And they were probably the most content and peaceful race.

Anyways, straight men don't all fall into that stereotype...but Maxim readers probably do. At least in what they want to see in this particular magazine. I mean, if they're readers didn't wanna see that they wouldn't put it in their magazines. Most guys probably want something they can masturbate to without having to hide their porn from their wives. And it's not like a dude's gonna be thinking about how funny a girl is when he's trying to get off.

14. I don't care if there are negative posts about this article. I think this article makes a lot of sense! I don't think this article or subject is perverted. I think she has a point. What women think and what men think are totally different! Women critique women whether they are bi, lesbian, or straight. So I think no matter what women know that women are hot no matter who they are.

17. I feel bad for whoever is so sad to have voted for lindsey lohan as the hottest women in the world. I'm straight and i have to say in our defense, sure breasts butt and i personaly dont agree with the badness but i know some guys do, is the first thing a guy notices, but in my personal opinion if they dont have the personality to follow up, their just another dumb blonde. Alos on the subject, alot of guys find cute way better then hot, cute intails personality, hot just means shes beatiful but may be as boring as a nail. No matter how hot a women is, it cant make up for being stupid, and or having no personality.

18. What Madie said, it's a frickin' hottie list. Chill, all. (Though I have to opine that anyone who thinks these women are very masculine has never met a masculine woman.)

For my part, I've always found Sandra Bullock annoying, even in roles where I've found her kinda hot. I don't know why, exactly; anyway, it's just personal taste.

I'm not familiar with Leisha Haley, but I can agree on the rest.

Also, I back what Dani said: though I'm a hetero male, I'm tired of the Maxim women (Special exceptions for Scarlett Johannsen and maybe Jessica Biel). That particular standard of beauty is like flashy wrapping paper -- it immediately engages the eye, but that's about it.

20. The Maxim list shocked me as well... It made me think anyone could make that list. I'm surprised they didn't include Tara Reid as number one, or maybe Dakota Fanning after her "artistic" scene in her new movie. I was most disgusted with Avril being on the list at all, let alone #15. Makes me sick.
