When I think of rocker chicks, one word comes to mind: HOT, so if I get the chance to go to an all girls rock show, you know I'm there. All these thoughts of rocker chicks made me think back to a special day back in high school. Let's go back to 1999... I was only 16 years old and feeling pretty lucky to be invited to a concert by my senior friends. They told me it was called the Lilith Fair and it was going to be so much fun! The line-up for that concert date was Mya, Sheryl Crow, The Pretenders and Sarah McLachlan (among many others) and I remember being ecstatic that I'd get to see such amazing artists all in one day.

I remember it was very hot and muggy on that day at "Great Woods" Ampitheater in Mansfield, MA, and I found myself surrounded by hordes of women. Everyone was hugging and kissing each other, dancing freely to the sweet smell of mary jane, and singing to the music at the top their lungs. Some of them even took their tops off! I imagine it must have resembled the early days of the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival and I knew right then and there I had truly found heaven. But, the sad reality was that 1999 was the last year for Lilith Fair and there hasn't been many all-women concert events since then. Until now...

In what's being described as a latter-day Lilith Fair, Sheryl Crow, Avril Lavigne and Fiona Apple are teaming up for a new all-female musical event called Girlfrenzy.

Girlfrenzy will also feature performances by newcomers Colbie Caillat, Sara Bareilles and Antigone Rising with promoters expected to announce more femme-centric acts in the coming weeks. The concert is scheduled to be held Oct. 27 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, Calif.

Girlfrenzy was created by Right Arm Entertainment, best known for the Rock on the Range festival, which in May sold out Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, with a bill featuring Evanescence, Velvet Revolver and ZZ Top. Tickets for Girlfrenzy go on sale Saturday (Aug. 25) via Ticketmaster. As you know, Sheryl Crow is a breast cancer survivor, so it should come as no surprise that a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I know what all you non-Californians are thinking...what about the rest of the country that wants to attend this rockin' awesome event? Well, my guess is that this first venue might just be a test-run for Girlfrenzy, so here's hoping it attracts a large crowd of girlies and helps promote an even larger list of Girlfrenzy venues for the future. Rock on, my lesbian sisters!
