Some days, I fear that I'm repeating myself; suffering from broken record syndrome. But I suppose in a war there's a certain redundancy to each battle. The geography and the names may change but the struggle pretty much looks the same. I also keep at it because I do believe that part of the enemy's strategy is to wear us down on multiple fronts until we just shut up, accept our second class citizenship and crawl obediently back into some national closet--and I for one am not about to do that.
But some days I really don't want to write, I just want to find one of these hateful morons and give him a good old-fashioned punch in the nose. It's violent, it's wrong and it's immature, but it would feel so yumalicious!
The latest blood spilt is over the battle for California's queer kids. Several California-based and national "Christian" groups are pounding on the California governor's door demanding that he veto a new state law that has successfully made its way through the California state legislature. The new law would ban discrimination against queers in California schools. The "Christians" are also demanding that the governor censure the California Parent Teachers Association (PTA) which has "endorsed the demand to shows gays positively."
One of these so-called Christian groups, the Campaign for Children and Families is claiming that a ban against a Christian or Muslim's right to condemn and ostracize children who choose perverted and sinful lifestyles is censorship and an attack on religious freedom. Truly Godly children should have the right to set their queer peers straight in every way possible.
I haven't yet come face to face with anyone who actually succumbs to this kind of insane illogic underpinned by superstition, ignorance and fear, but my clenched fist is twitching. It just feels so right, delivering that punch in the nose. Clearly logic, reason, sanity and decency are complete strangers to such people.
According to the absurdly named hate group "Campaign for Children and Families", "The California PTA which boasts of speaking "for every child," has endorsed the homosexual indoctrination plan assembled by the state legislature that could be used to ban even the words "mom" and "dad." "
"The new plan bans any teaching or activities in schools involving a "discriminatory bias" against homosexuals, transgenders or bisexuals". Karen England, the executive director of Capitol Resource Family Impact said the essence of the law, SB 777 is that it seeks to normalize alternative lifestyles in California schools with special recognition for homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality.
The religious lunatics have been driven over the edge by a letter from the "extremist queer-loving" California PTA to the governor's office in which the PTA states, "The California State PTA supports equal rights for all. We believe all children and youth should have equal opportunities to develop and reach their maximum potential. We also believe that every child is entitled to a safe and positive school climate that provides for the emotional safety of the students, supports and recognizes each person's efforts to achieve his/her full potential; and provides the social and cultural acceptance every individual needs of high self-esteem."
Now those are fighting words!
Clearly this is language that would deeply offend Jesus, Muhammad and their devoted followers. The neo-Conservative groups would have us believe that God demands that they run every queer child into the ground; convert the ones who are reachable and bash the f*** out of those who aren't.
According to Karen England, "This astonishing legislation would ban any teaching or activities in schools that 'promote a discriminatory bias' against homosexuals, transgenders, bisexuals, and those with gender ... issues,"
"The PTA supposedly speaks on behalf of thousands of teachers and parents...However, very few of their members know of the subversive legislation...SB 777 seeks to normalize alternative lifestyles in California schools... It is doubtful that the members of the...PTA would support such extremist policies in their local schools, let along the entire state."
England said the ramifications of the legislation already can be seen in Los Angeles, where the district previously adopted some of the policies now being set up for statewide implementation.
"In this policy, teachers are instructed to keep a student's transgender status private, including from the student's parents. ... This is an appalling school policy – treating parents as the enemy, at the expense of the student's relationship with family."
England noted that even more alarming is the policy of providing access to restroom and locker facilities that "correspond to the gender identity that the student consistently asserts..."
"If a male student 'consistently asserts' himself as a female at school, he will be granted access to female restrooms and locker rooms. As teachers and school officials grow accustomed to seeing boys entering female-only areas, they will be less likely to intervene for fear of offending a transgender student. Those with evil intentions will then gain access to innocent girls in otherwise safe environments. This poses a serious danger to the safety of young female students."
Of all of the accusations we've heard against queers, my new favorite is the notion that little boys would pretend to be transgender in order to gain access to girl's rooms so that they could rape and molest innocent females. Let me know if you've heard one better than that. Also let me know if you've thought up a better response to these people than a punch in the nose. I'm really at a loss.

The way that SB777 is being distorted by the Campaign for Children and Families (NOT)--to ban the words "mom" and "dad" show the power of appealing to emotion, of derailing the discussion. We need to learn to control the debate, and frame the issues ourselves:
Hate is NOT a family value

Nobody, absolutely nobody anywhere at any time has the right to harm or put their hands on another human being with bad intent at any time. Only for saving your own life or the life of others and that's it. Sacred areas if interest have been infiltrated (locker rooms, showers) ever since I became aware of them, there will always be issues. Where on Earth can I find a "Unisex" facility? It was great to be a kid don't you agree?

Perhaps its time to beat them at their own game.
Let's have GBLT groups propose legislation requiring the wearing of Burkas by all girls, and require praying to Allah 3 times a day, the keeping of kosher, the banning of wearing mixed fibers and the stoning of students who hold hands or kiss
The obvious flaw in attempt to legislate religious 'beliefs' (such as homosexuality is evil) is who is going to decide who's God and who's religion will be legislated.
The arrogant presumption of Christian morality (twisted interpretation provided at no extra charge) that they have moral superiority can be countered by promoting other religious views.
This controls and shifts the dialogue from Extreme Christian vs. Homosexuality to Extreme Christian vs. Buddhism or vs. Muslims, etc.
Let's hear these groups explain why their beliefs are more valid than those of another relgion.
Then again a fist to the face sure would feel good. Much like I and many GBLT have experienced because some parts of society condone and encourage discrimination and hatred.

There is no better argument for interpreting the Bill of Rights phrase "freedom of religion" to mean "freedom from religion" than the behavior of these idiots! Their insistence on the right to force their beliefs on those who do not agree underscores the threat to real democracy that such people have become. Be not deceived: the Spirit of the Divine is not found with them.

Punch in the nose sounds about right. Although I prefer judo chop to the neck particularly in the "adam's apple area."
Richard: to me, redundancy means nothing when you truly believe in what you are saying. Our uphill battle needs consistent persistency. And I hope you can continue to shed light on what you believe in. I'll be reading.

Your not being redundant. I'm glad someone out there cares enough to take the time and write about these things. Don't give up. That's just what "the man" wants us to do.
Your quite lovely. Thank you once again for keeping us informed.

ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU RICHARD FOR YOUR TIME PATIENCE,AND PERSISTANCE. MIDWEST AND PROUD(3) IS ON TO SOMETHING, BUT IF HISTORY IS A LESSON, THESE PEOPLE WILL: BURN, HANG,CASTRATE,STONE,AMPUTATE,FLOG AND/OR SELL INTO SLAVERY, THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER, RIGHT AFTER THEY FINISH WITH EVERYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH THEM. WHEN THERE ARE ONLY TWO(SAME RELIGION) LEFT, ONE WILL FIND(GOD'S WILL) REASON TO ELIMINATE THE OTHER. ALL WE(RICHARDS OF THE WORLD) CAN/MUST DO IS CONTINUE TO SHINE A LIGHT ON THE VERY REAL CREEPY CRAWLIES UNDER THEIR "ROCK"(CHRISTIAN REF).

PLEASE don't stop being redundant! You can even re-post your favorites. This message needs to be hammered into our own heads as much as the heads of the republicans and religious fanatics.
In addition, we need our own version of Al Sharpton. Al can appear a tad wacko, but in the end shows up all over the country when he believes a racial injustice happens, and he's able to find thousands of people to join him. And, he attracts the media. And he's a little bit scary. When a local school system decides to ban a gay/straight alliance, our Gay Al Sharpton should show up with friends shouting. Richard, can you fluff up your hair and get people as excited verbally as you are able to do in print?

Amanda: You have not offended me. But you have confused me.
Are you saying that you only have sex when you are trying to make little people? You don't have sex for the pleasure of being with the person you love?
Remember: You said you were not going to bring religion into this...

Amanda: At least you're nice. Some people come in here to shoot their mouths off.
In the spirit of not bringing religion into the conversation, not every species on the planet sticks to the male-female rule. Nature usually never sticks to any rules (just like on Jurassic Park).
If two people love each other they should be allowed to. Besides we need more parents and less kids anyway.

Amanda: To look at this from a slightly different angle, I must agree that it takes a male and a female to procreate. Isn't it time, however, to let go of the whole "procreate" argument? Have we not already procreated to a point at which we are no longer able to sustain our population and are ruining our environment? Maybe I was born the way I am so that I will NOT procreate. Maybe "God," (choose one at will...) has made this his or her plan so that the human race is saved from self-destruction. Maybe WE are morally correct!
'Just a thought. But really, the concept that homosexuality is morally wrong based on the fact that we cannot procreate is more than a little naieve, and very passe.

What can I say? It looked like fun, the hours were decent (you don't have to wake up TOO early).
If they had kicked all the different children out of my school, I might not have been exposed.
Then I would be in church right now, instead of posting on the stupid ole internets!

Hello everyone. I am a born again practicing Christian who is neither anti-gay or pro-gay but very much for equal rights and justice for all people, especially for people who are targeted for discrimination, abuse, and hate crimes. On Christmas eve, eve, my church announced a lie that Governor Schwarzenegger passed a law to allow same sex marriage, when that's totally not true, and encouraged everyone who has Christian values should sign a petition to veto the bill SB 777. The church received the information based on the hate propaganda by a group called Presence(www.presencefamily.org) with other nationally know hate groups (www.americansfortruth.org). After church my husband and I screamed at the pastor who made the announcement telling him that what he said is wrong, all based on hate propaganda and that what he said and did was unchristian. Afterwards we sent him and the head pastor an extremely hard letter of disproval and demanded the anti-SB 777 petitions be retracted as well as a re-announcement at the church siting what they annoucnced was totally wrong. If he fails to do this, I will take it up to criminal prosecutors and get the media involved. Real Christians believe that Jesus Christ came for ALL sinful people and not just selective sins the Christian right believe. Self-righteousness is a major sin and I believe Christians should not be hating so much to take other people's rights away. As a Christian I don't want to call the Christian right nasty expletives, but they really are disturbed and scary people I don't care to be associated with.
