Art - What do coins, medals and renowned photographer David Lachapelle have in common? Not much you would think. But until the 31st of May you can find all three under one roof in Paris, France.
Since the 6th of February until the 31st of May La Monnaie in Paris will be exhibiting almost 200 pictures of this celebrity photographer turned artist in the largest retrospective of LaChapelle ever to be organised in France. Enough to give every visitor a bright and colourful overview of LaChapelle's 20-year career.
From Madonna to Paris Hilton and even some less known mortals, David LaChapelle had them all in front of his camera.
David LaChapelle was born in Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1963 and soon knew that photography would become his life and passion.
His first break arrived in a professional commission from Andy Warhol in 1982. Warhol, who was editor in chief of Interview magazine at the time is said to have met LaChapelle during a night out in Studio 54 and made such an impression on the then 19-year old LaChapelle that the result can still be seen in later work of the photographer.
The retrospective of LaChapelle's work in La Monnaie is definitely a must see especially since it brings LaChapelle's entire body of work together, reunited in one place.
