Music - Cheryl Cole has reached number one in both the UK single and album charts, holding both slots simultaneously this week. She is only the 12th solo female artist to do this.
Cheryl's debut solo single 'Fight for this love' sold 282,686 copies in its first week, and with another 138,614 sold last week, it has not only managed to become the fastest selling single of the year, but also the 12th biggest selling song of 2009 with just 2 weeks of sales.
As reported last week, Cheryl managed to knock X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke off the singles chart top spot. She's now knocked Alexandra's album off the number one spot! Whilst holding on to the number one single position this week, Cheryl's album '3 Words' also debuted at number one, with 125,271 sales, thus achieving the rare feat of scoring the double, last accomplished by Lady Gaga 6 months ago.
Cheryl is not stopping at UK success. There are reports that Cheryl has signed a huge deal in the US. While Solange Knowles may have just parted ways with Interscope, it seems that Cheryl Cole may have just signed a new deal with them. A music insider told the News Of The World: "The Interscope deal is huge for Cheryl, especially as Girls Aloud have never released a single there." Although this is yet to be confirmed, the link with Simon Cowell, and the collaborations with Will-i-am will no doubt give Cheryl huge exposure there if she was to release in the US.
