- After performing on The X Factor last weekend, the former winner of the talent show, Leona Lewis releases her brand new single "Happy" this week.

Taken from her second album 'Echo', Leona co-wrote 'Happy' with Evan Bogart, and Ryan Tedder, who co-wrote 'Bleeding Love'. Tedder wrote on his blog: "I honestly feel it is the most beautiful song I've ever been a part of." Leona recorded her vocals for the song straight after it was written. "The vocal was totally spontaneous. I sang it as soon as we finished writing. Sometimes it's better not to over-think things," she revealed.

Speaking of the lyrics, Leona recently said: "It's a contradiction of song because, yes, it's named "Happy", but the song's kind of dark, a bit sad, sombre. In my songs I want people to go on a journey, and [to get to] happiness, you go through a lot of pain and sadness to get there sometimes and that's what we wanted to convey on the song."

The new album 'Echo' includes collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Xenomania, Ne-Yo, Jay-Z, Will-I-Am and is released November 16th, 2009.

The video for "Happy" was directed by Jaka Nava (Kylie/Beyonce) and was filmed in Cuba on September 29th 2009.
