TV - Your round up of gay tv news is back!

Russel T Davies has confirmed (sort of) that Series 4 of Torchwood will go into production in January. Sure, there was gay outrage when Ianto was killed off in Children of Earth, but just think how much Captain Jack will be putting it about now! And Captain John is still knocking about somewhere...

Queer favourite Joss Whedon must be pretty sad after the cancellation of Dollhouse - this is his second 'failed' series after ill-fated Firefly. Sadness will be turned to Glee though, as he has signed on to direct an episode of the successful musical series, coming to E4 next year, which features a gay male soprano played by Chris Colfer (pictured).

Misfits premiered this week - a series perhaps pitched somewhere between Heroesand Skins (but don't they say that about any programme for youths these days?) It follows five youths (or ASBOs as they are popularly known) doing community service. When lightning literally strikes, they are left with superpowers - but will they use them for good?

When I read over the casting a few months ago it told me that one of the characters wasn't strictly straight, but there's no evidence of that from the pilot. We've either got a big reveal coming, or they changed their minds. It doesn't have Skins levity, well they have a go, but it's mostly annoying. They've set in the back stories nicely, everyone has a reason why they're serving their ASBO's, and an ironic power to boot. It feels like E4 have invested time and money into making this a success, so I expect it to play out well, although my guess is that with a double killing in the first hour the plot will sprawl out a little like 'I know what you did last Summer'...but with bigger hoop earrings.
