Music - Susan Boyle's forthcoming debut album has already broken sales records, even before its release on November 23rd.

'I Dreamed A Dream' has become the largest pre-ordered CD album in the world ever. Online retailer Amazon has confirmed that the album has now exceeded the previous record, which was set in 2008 by Japanese rock group Mr Children's Supermarket Fantasy.

Julian Monaghan, who is the head of music buying at Amazon.co.uk, said: "Just eight months ago, no one was aware of the talents of Susan Boyle. Now, she has generated more Amazon pre-order CD sales globally than any other artist. That is an incredible achievement and is testament to the fact that she has captured the hearts of people all over Britain, America and the rest of the world."

The second and third most pre-ordered albums on Amazon worldwide were local releases in Japan. Norah Jones' 2007 release 'Not Too Late' is the fourth biggest, and Take That are in fifth place with the 2008 compilation 'Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection'.

Steve Barnett, Chairman of Columbia Records, added: "One of the things that is so unique about Susan Boyle is her ability to touch people around the world. We're excited that 'I Dreamed a Dream' holds the new record for global pre-orders and that Amazon's customers have supported her album in this way."

Susan, who came second in Britain's Got Talent, became an instant internet star with her performance of the Les Misérables classic 'I Dreamed A Dream'. Originally from Blackburn, West Lothian, the singer scored tens of millions of hits on YouTube, and won over fans around the world including Demi Moore and Elaine Paige.

After initially struggling with her sudden fame, Susan suffered from exhaustion and checked into The Priory. She is now gearing up for a hectic promotional schedule leading up to the release of her debut album next week.

Susan Boyle will be performing live on The X Factor, Sunday 22nd November.
