- Dame Julie Andrews is to make a comeback next year, with a return to the London stage. She has promised a "nostalgic trip" through many of her stage and screen performances. It will be the first performance that the 74 year-old actress and singer has done in London for 30 years.

The 'Sound Of Music' star's voice was damaged 12 years ago after surgeons operated to remove non-cancerous nodules on her vocal cords. At the time she said: "Singing has been a cherished gift, and my inability to sing has been a devastating blow." Ms. Andrews successfully sued the New York surgeons, winning £600,000 in an out-of-court settlement. She now describes her voice as "a wonderful, deep, bass voice of about five notes and that's about it."

'An Evening With Julie Andrews' will take place at the 02 on May 8th, 2010. Dame Julie, most known for her starring role in 'Mary Poppins', will sing hits from 'The Sound Of Music', 'The King And I',' South Pacific' and 'Carousel' with an ensemble of West End and Broadway stars and accompaniment from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, Dame Julie will also narrate the children's book 'Simeon's Gift', which she wrote with her daughter.

The Oscar-winner said: "To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment - it is where it all began for me, and I am so excited to be able to share a brand new work with audiences."
