Interview - Pop, it's safe to say, is well and truly back, and we mean 'pop' in the purest sense of the word too. Helping us get over our indie hangover are a load of fresh new pop acts that are currently busying themselves in the upper reaches of the chart. A case in point are fab new Brit duo, Mini Viva, whose debut single Left My Heart In Tokyo was a bona fide Top 10 hit this summer and will (we predict) be cropping up on many an end-of-year 'best singles of 2009' list (and not just ours).Coming on like a 21st century Mel & Kim with more than a sprinkling of Spice Girl attitude, the girls have come out of the mighty Xenomania pop stable, the uber pop production house behind Girls Aloud's musical output and who can also count the likes of Kylie, Pet Shop Boys and Sugababes amongst their chart successes. Pretty damn fine company to be keeping, we think you'll agree.
So, as their latest charges gear up for the release of new single, I Wish, we managed to get Mancunian Frankee, 19, and Geordie Britt, 20, to sit still long enough (no mean feat) to play our little game of Either/Or. Aside from being the only people on the planet who don't know who Taylor Lautner is, we couldn't help but love their views on world peace. Take it away girls!
Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner?
Britt: Taylor who?
Frankee: Oh he's the guy from New Moon. Probably Robert but I don't really like any of them to be honest, but if I had to choose then I'd go for Robert.
Britt: Yeah go on, we'll both pick Robert
Sushi or Indian?
Britt: Sushi definitely. I'm obsessed with it.
Frankee: Oh, I'd say the opposite.
Sun or Ski?
Both: SUN!
Gay club or Straight club?
Frankee: A gay club!
Britt: Yeah, we love our gay friends. We're performing at G.A.Y. on Saturday, there will be lots of surprises.
X Factor or Strictly?
Frankee: X Factor, but we love Alesha on Strictly as well
Britt: She's our friend.
Stadium show or Intimate gig?
Both: Intimate gig.
Designer or High Street?
Both: High street.
Kylie or Madonna?
Both: Madonna, definitely.
London or New York?
Both: New York.
Tube or Cab?
Frankee: Tube
Britt: Oh I'd say cab. The tube smells!
Girls Aloud or Sugababes?
Both: Girls Aloud!
No.1 single or world peace?
Frankee: Ahh I think a bit of both, they're both important
Britt: Yeah, both.
Style bible or celeb magazine?
Frankee: Style bible.
Britt: Well a bit of both because then you get a bit of gossip with a celeb magazine.
The single, I Wish, is out 14 December. Their debut album is due in 2010. Check out the video for I Wish below...
