- After a few setbacks for gay marriage in the US over the passed few weeks finally some good news. The Washington D.C. City Council yesterday passed a measure legalizing gay marriage.

The bill which passed by an 11-to-2 majority may still face a few hurdles in Congress and in the courts but is expected to become law by spring.

Councilman Catania, author of the bill, called the vote an important victory for everyone who supports equal rights but opponents already vowed to try and overturn the bill by calling for a referendum or by working with Congress

The bill seems like a normal evolution as the city already recognizes gay marriages performed in states where they are legal.
