In the interview he talks about how his secret cost him his marriage and almost drove him to suicide. By outing himself, Thomas joins other stars such as basketball's John Amaechi and Australian diver Matthew Mitcham.
35-year-old former Wales and Lions rugby captain Gareth Thomas spoke to the Daily Mail about coming out to his team mates and said that he was anxious about people's reactions to him being gay. He also revealed he could not have come out earlier in his career.
He mentions that he had battled all sorts of emotions regarding his sexuality since he knew he was gay in his late teens and says he doesn't want to be known as a gay rugby player.
