VideoW@tch - American rock band OK Go have returned this month with their third album to date, 'Of the Blue Colour of the Sky'. Following the critical acclaim of the first video, 'WTF', the second of 13 planned music videos, 'This Too Shall Pass', has just been released.
The band, who originally come from Chicago, were formed in 1998 and are now based in Los Angeles. OK Go are probably most known in the UK for their 2002 hit, 'Get Over It'. Although you would be forgiven for not noticing that the group's line-up has changed, the band are becoming more recognised since a guest appearance in the comedy movie, 'I love you, man', alongside Paul Rudd and Jason Segel.
With songs featured on Guitar Hero, and movies such as 'I love you, Beth Cooper' and 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon', surely their track to be featured on the upcoming Muppets Tribute album, due April 2010, will crown their breakthrough into mainstream culture.
Notably known for their interesting viral video clips, OK Go have been busy developing videos for the whole album. With the help of a team of engineers from NASA and Jet Propulsion Laboratories, some animals, a Dutch artist and MIT Media Lab students, the plan is to make a video to accompany each of the album's 13 tracks. With 175 million video streams, the group are officially the most downloaded band ever. It all kicked off in 2005, when the video for "A Million Ways" was released, which simply featured the four band members dancing in a backyard. The follow-up "Here It Goes Again" became the decade's most viewed music video, and won the band a Grammy.
OK Go have persued the 'viral' genre with their latest video. Directed by Brian L. Perkins and the band themselves, it was filmed live, and features the Notre Dame marching band.
