She's One Gay Lovin' Sensuous Woman: Alone Time With Margaret Cho

Margaret Cho -- the talented, dirty, hilarious, shocking, gay-loving comedienne -- has been making audiences laugh for over 20 years.

Did I write laugh? No, I mean something bigger. I mean spit out your food and have your drink come up through your nose laugh. The fact that she loves and embraces the gays – men, women, MTF, FTM and everyone in between – makes me adore her even more.

Her new show, 'The Sensuous Woman,' currently playing off-Broadway's Zipper Theatre, is one of her most original and outrageous stage outings yet.

For this go-round, she's joined by Los Angeles bellydance and burlesque sensation Princess Farhana, emerging transgendered comic Ian Harvie, the burlesque performer Selene Luna, comic actor Liam Sullivan as internet rock-star Kelly, internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Ryan Heffington, New York downtown fave Miss Dirty Martini and sketch comedians Diana Yanez & Kurt Hall of the Gay Mafia Comedy Troupe of West Hollywood.

I was seriously excited to talk to Margaret. I found her to be candid, honest and flat-out cool. We talked about comedy, her love for the homos and trannies and the new show.

And for some reason I wanted her to get sorta dirty like only she can. Did she? Find out after the jump.

A New Home for Gay Geeks

My QueerSighted guest post, 'High School Musical 2': Chock Full of Gay, generated so much traffic and so many comments (1,800+) that I was tempted to make this--my very first entry as an official member of the QueerSighted team--as controversial as possible by writing something like "The Little Mermaid Was a Big Lesbian" or "Donald Duck Bottoms for Dollars." But I know better than to court controversy on purpose. It's wiser to offend people unwittingly--that way, I can claim ignorance and escape persecution relatively unscathed.

So I will instead use my first QueerSighted post to stake my claim as this blog's resident nerd by expressing my excitement about DoorQ.com, a new website for gay fans of everything related to sci-fi, horror, and fantasy. Launching this Halloween, DoorQ.com (pronounced "dork," as pointed out to me by the far more perceptive Kenneth Hill, this blog's managing editor) will provide news, reviews, and interviews, as well as original fiction, comics, and short films. And as if that weren't enough to satiate your inner gay geek, the site will also have a slew of social networking features like personal profiles, forums, chat rooms, and matchmaking tools--'cuz nerds need lovin' too!

I Wish I Were a Lesbian

Don't we all?

He had me when he wanted to correct the chick's grammar. Love it.

Virtual Gay Bashing

No one questions the need for or value of magazines or websites catering to straight men and women, but gay websites are often deemed pornographic or "adult content" simply because they have a gay perspective--sometimes on something as "adult" as gardening or literature or computer games-- and now they're even being targeted by homophobic hackers.

Gaygamer.net was gay bashed after weeks of hate language and Internet abuse--just the way it happens in real life. First they tease you, then they insult you and then they show up late at night and crack open your skull with a baseball bat. In the virtual world they crash your site

For those of you--like me--who don't give a damn about computer games, you might not know that gaygamer is a very popular and successful news site for gamers with a gay perspective--and that has outraged one or more straight (or closeted) gamers.

Joystiq reports: "After a series of hate speech incidents and forum postings to gaygamer.net, the site was taken offline by a set of denial of service attacks. Flynn DeMarco, the site's owner, said things started going wrong toward the end of last week until the site's host, GoDaddy.com, finally took the site offline until the attacks could be stopped."

As of now, the site is back up and the hackers have been blocked.

Geeks Descend on Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con -- aka the geekiest convention ever -- was held this past weekend. As I've mentioned before, I don't read comic books (I was once practically beaten up for saying "I read real books"), but my pals Chris and John, two of my geekier (geekiest?) co-workers, attended.

As the hosts of Comics Alliance, Chris and John documented their adventures in several geeky blog posts where they talk about meeting the cast and creators of Clive Barker's "Midnight Meat Train" after seeing the world premiere of the movie trailer, meeting the cast from "The Sarah Connor Chronicles," and chatting with and taking photos of fans dressed in over-the-top costumes which remind me of the good old days of Halloween on Castro Street before the influx of gawkers ruined it.

By the way, my other pals at geekily-gay Prism Comics created an entire gay agenda for the Comic-Con. They have some good stories to tell, too, not the least of which is Prism-editor Charles admitting that he was thrilled to find and buy "this kicky Wonder Woman belt." God love 'em!

But back to Chris and John. I was going through some of the hundreds of photos they took on this San Diego boondoggle they call "a work trip," and now I know why they go: The place is chock full of gorgeous men and women showing tons of skin!

The guy pictured below was directly across from Chris on the red carpet at the '300' DVD release party, and Chris was "forced" to stare at him for hours. John, on the other hand, couldn't get his finger to come off the shutter button on his camera whilst subtly flexing his muscles for Jessica Alba who was there promoting a movie. Check out some of these pics. They're hot. Meanwhile, I'm seriously considering taking up comic books.

Last Comic Standing: Goodbye Sabrina Matthews...

I like funny stuff, especially funny people, so it should come as no surprise to you that I would be a fan of Last Comic Standing. I find about 50% of the people on there actually funny, and one of those people happens to be Sabrina Matthews. You may have heard of her before, she's an openly lesbian comic who relates the absurd in everyday life in a witty anecdotal style. She's been featured on OutLaugh - The Best of Queer Comedy DVD , starred in the award winning film 'Laughing Matters...More' which included three other great Lesbian comics; Elvira Curt, Renee Hicks and Vickie Shaw. To add to her already growing list of comedy credentials, Sabrina has also had her own half hour special: Comedy Central presents Sabrina Matthews.

Sabrina made it onto this season's semi-final round of 'Last Comic Standing' but much to the dismay of adoring fans everywhere, she was voted off the comedic island last night. I'll admit, I had high hopes for Sabrina, but alas America has chosen to vote for some of the less funny stand-up comedians of the male persuasion. It does do me proud to see strong, gay women like Sabrina Matthews who have really captured the essence of humor and are out there making people laugh and making a name for themselves. Here I present you my Sabrina Matthews tribute!

Bomb Bomb And Celeste

I very much like Margaret Cho. Sometimes I even love her. She does have moments of comic brilliance but they are sometimes connected by long stretches of sophomoric and obvious humor that entertains but in my case mildly. She seems to be--I say seems to be because I really have no idea--badly managed and in need of better writers or at least more honest friends. "Sorry, Margaret, I saw that coming from a mile away. Try again."

More importantly, Margaret Cho is neither pretty enough, stupid enough, rich enough or thin enough to achieve and sustain celebrity without talent and credibility. Fortunately for her she has both, especially credibility within the gay community.

So when I received a screener for her new DVD release (August 12), BAM BAM AND CELESTE I was delighted and very much surprised. Why hadn't I heard of this before? How did I miss a film written by and starring Margaret Cho?

'Triumph the Insult Comic Dog' + The Tonys = Hilarious, Classic Clip!

We all know the Tony Awards are the gayest of all the award shows. (Heck, I wrote not one, not two, but THREE columns about 'em here, here and here.) But people, how I missed THIS clip, I have no idea:

This would be a classic-in-the-making segment from 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien' as 'Triumph the Insult Comic Dog' rips the Tonys' red carpet a new one.

And man, I know I'm a wee-bit behind the YouTube times but, if you missed this like I did, here 'tis. Watch and laugh, my friends, watch and laugh.

So tell me, dear readers: What do YOU think of this 'Conan' clip?

Yes, It's True...Kathy Griffin Has A Sex Tape

Ok, it's not a REAL sex tape. I mean, c'mon, do you think people would actually watch that sh*t? Well I would but it would only be out of morbid curiosity. Now don't get me wrong, I love Kathy Griffin. She's somehow turned her failing career into a hit show on Bravo. If you haven't seen it, it's called "Kathy Griffin My Life On The D List". Not only that, but her stand-up is hilarious - her act is based almost entirely of making fun of well-known celebritiesand annoying republicans. It doesn't get much better than that. Plus, she loves the gays.

Kathy did a broadcast on her show where she requested people to vote for ways to get her off the D List. One of those ways was to do a sex tape! I was surprised to learn that her "sex tape" would be done with Dame Judi Dench and not a man, despite Kathy's heterosexual lifestyle. I'm not going to lie, I didn't know who Dame Judi Dench was, so I did a little research and will share with you (to satisfy your curiosity).

The 'F Word' Gives Off-Broadway A Reason to Laugh, Naked Guys Included!

Mature Content Advisory: The following post contains numerous references to the Fordham Underground Comedy Troupe, aka FUCT. If reading the acronym FUCT over and over offends you, please DO NOT read any further. If on the other hand, you think it's funny, and you won't be offended by a photo of a partially bare -- but very harmless -- bottom, please proceed.

That said, good day, esteemed QueerSighted readers! I'd like to start off today's column with a harmless little question:

Who here is interested in getting FUCT?

- You ma'am? Nice.

- And you too, dude? Cool!

- And you, sir? Really? I didn't know you were into that. Good for you!

Oh wait. No people, not that.

FUCT is actually an up-and-coming comedy troupe that's just starting to get noticed by the New York underground comedy scene, even though they've been at it for years. They've also amassed an avid fan base for regularly featuring naked guys in original comedy sketches, all for the sake for a hearty belly laugh. These sketches are hysterical and sometimes torturous -- but in this case, that's a very good, very funny thing.

I recently sat down at a Times Square diner for lunch with two of the troupe's members: Graham Skipper, 24, and Jon Crane, 26.

We talked about how they started getting FUCT, the oft-naked men in their shows, what the hell FUCT means, and what to expect in their newest show, aptly titled, 'FUCT: The Tip Doesn't Count' ... and a lot of other things.

Read how YOU can get FUCT after the jump ... C'mon, you know you want to get FUCT. No. You NEED to.

Any Pun I Come Up With Would Be Too Easy...

i like laughing almost as much as i like lesbian sex. almost.

here's a new find that i stumbled on one night while looking for vids about people with the words "man" AND "anus" in their names. turns out, her last name isn't the only thing thats funny about Bridget Mcmanus:

...@ the Comedy Union in L.A.

if you live in L.A., you should check her myspace page @ www.myspace.com/bridgetmcmanus for her upcoming appearances. i know i'll definitely be at the first one i can!

and in case you somehow missed this little gem...from the queen of all queens...

"My Puss" performed my "Maureen" and "Angela"

lyrics by Margaret Cho, Diana Yanez & Kurt Hall
music by Kurt Hall
directed by Margaret Cho

in June, Margaret is joining the gayest tour since Lilith Fair to help raise money for the Human Rights Campaign. go to her myspace page www.myspace.com/margaretcho for a looong list of dates and lots more information about le gay.

alright guys, im off to look for Karen Walker vids to really get this party started. by the way, anyone else wonder why "Will & Grace" never had an episode where Karen's old friends from England come to visit and they're the "Ab Fab" girls? how amazing would that combination have been?? ah, but alas, that story line's omission is the one thing the show got wrong. *sigh*

remember to high-five at least one stranger today. it's good for the soul.

Comic Geeks and Gays

I've never been a comic book reader. As a card carrying non-conformist, I feel ashamed to admit this and know I'd be way cooler in a super-dork kind of way if I had a stash of comics at home. (Does 'Tom of Finland' count?)

Super Hero Not that I don't care at all about comic-y things, I do. I like super hero movies and have had plenty of fantasies about making sexy time with Batman (played by Christian Bale, duh!). I missed the opening episodes of 'Heroes,' so I'm not watching that and regret it. But at the end of the day, I like to read real books. (WHAT!? That line is going to generate hate mail??? Sorry, kidding!)

I recognize that comics are huge with the gays, however, so even though I'm comics-deficient, I have three shares for you today.

First, at the suggestion of the randy editors at Queerty, I created my own super hero (see my handiwork above) over at this Marvel site. I tried to make the gayest super hero ever, as evidenced by the restrained use of a tasteful black and gray palette. I'm super proud of my comet-red accents and Cher-inspired accessories. Do you love these shoes, or what? What hetero super hero do you know who has the guts to wear red espadrilles? In the winter! 'Nuf said.

Comics Alliance logo Second, for you true comics fans, you need to know that two of my more awesome AOL colleagues have started a new blog I bet you will want to read. Aptly named Comics Alliance, the blog features an alliance of geeky bloggers who wax poetic daily about stuff of which I know absolutely nothing, and post photos of people dressed up in sexy/powerful/geeky outfits.

These two aforementioned guys -- I'll call them "Chris" and "John" -- recently attended the gi-normous New York Comic Con (they are still trying to tell me this was "work") where they hobnobbed with other geeks and even stalked Stephen King, Stan Lee and
Kevin Smith. Take it from me: Chris and John don't just look like huge geeks, they really are geeks. So if you're one too, join their mysterious Alliance. [PS: One of them is even gay, and we'd gladly add the other one to our team, too, but he's married so hands off.]
